Black House Audiobook Overview
From the #1 New York Times bestselling authors of The Talisman, “an intelligent…suspenseful page-turner” (The Wall Street Journal) from “two master craftsmen, each at the top of his game” (The Washington Post).
Background
Black House Audiobook is a horror audiobook by American writers Stephen King and Peter Straub. Published in 2001, it is the sequel to The Talisman. This is one of King’s numerous novels, which also include Hearts in Atlantis and Insomnia, that tie in with the Dark Tower Audiobook series.
The audiobook is set in Straub’s homeland of Wisconsin, rather than in King’s frequently-used backdrop of Maine. The town of “French Landing” is a fictionalized version of the town of Trempealeau, Wisconsin. Also, “Centralia” is named after the nearby small town of Centerville, Wisconsin, located at the intersection of Hwy 93 and Hwy 35.
Plot Summary
Twenty years ago, a boy named Jack Sawyer traveled to a parallel universe called the Territories to save his mother and her Territories “Twinner” from an agonizing death that would have brought cataclysm to the other world.
Now Jack is a retired Los Angeles homicide detective living in the nearly nonexistent hamlet of Tamarack, Wisconsin. He has no recollection of his adventures in the Territories, and was compelled to leave the police force when an odd, happenstance event threatened to awaken those memories.
When a series of gruesome murders occur in western Wisconsin that is reminiscent of those committed several decades ago by a madman named Albert Fish, the killer is dubbed “the Fishman,” and Jack’s buddy, the local chief of police, begs Jack to help the inexperienced force find him. But are these new killings merely the work of a disturbed individual, or has a mysterious and malignant force been unleashed in this quiet town? What causes Jack’s inexplicable waking dreams – if that is what they are – of robins’ eggs and red feathers?
It’s almost as if someone is trying to tell him something. As this cryptic message becomes increasingly impossible to ignore, Jack is drawn back to the Territories and to his own hidden past, where he may find the soul-strength to enter a terrifying house at the end of a deserted tract of forest, there to encounter the obscene and ferocious evils sheltered within it.
Audiobook Review
I love Stephen King. I love serial killers. Combine the two and you have a book that is right up jobis89’s street. The Talisman is an epic fantasy audiobook, spanning across our world and The Territories, as Jack Sawyer embarks on a mission to travel across the country to try and save his mother (and her Twinner) from death.
Black House Audiobook Mp3, however, is darker, much more of a horror novel, I feel, and it focuses on one small town – Coulee County. The Talisman is a great, great book, but Black House is just more to my slightly darker, slightly more murderous, cannibalistic tastes… sorry not sorry *evil laugh*
There’s so much to love about Black House Audiobook Download. Other reviews I had looked at had pointed out the narrative style as something they did not like about Black House – well, I LOVED the narrative style.
It’s a bit slow and hard to get into at the beginning, but once I did I really enjoyed it. The narrative style is as if you’re flying over Coulee County and you’re allowed little snapshots into the lives of the residents through a bird’s-eye perspective.
