Plot Summary

Audiobook Reviews

I think The Hollow Boy Audiobook Mp3 is the best audiobook in this series. Overall the story had good momentum, lots of unpredictable moments, it has really scary parts where it’s difficult to figure out what’s happening (always good in a mystery), the supernatural elements are amped up (in a good way) and really add to the story and suspense.

It was nice to see different factions working together but in some ways not enough character development on key people outside the group to be invested in them or their contributions.

The humor found within is perfect, it is used sparingly and strikes with rapier-like accuracy. The preceding book introduced a new ‘character’, the titular Whispering Skull, and as much as I like Lockwood, George and Lucy, the skull is now far and away from my favorite, being by turns acerbic, witty, mischievous, wicked and generally wonderful. I think many other readers will find the skull a real highlight of the novel.

Highly recommended! Ms. Bevan’s narration has been the best of the three audiobooks and was thoroughly enjoyable. She is able to convey subtle nuances with her lovely voice, and it is very much appreciated. I listen to while cooking, and never got lost or had to re-wind. She elevated the story.

Plot Summary

Things look up when a new client, Mr. Saunders, hires Lockwood and Co. to be present at the excavation of Edmund Bickerstaff, a Victorian doctor who reportedly tried to communicate with the dead. Saunders needs the coffin sealed with silver to prevent any supernatural trouble. All goes well – until George’s curiosity attracts a horrible phantom.

Back home at Portland Row, Lockwood accuses George of making too many careless mistakes. Lucy is distracted by urgent whispers coming from the skull in the ghost jar. Then the team is summoned to DEPRAC headquarters. Kipps is there too, much to Lockwood’s annoyance. Bickerstaff’s coffin was raided and a strange glass object buried with the corpse has vanished. Inspector Barnes believes the relic to be highly dangerous, and he wants it found.

Story: This story is the perfect bedtime audiobook for kids who live for the scary stuff and for parents who worry that R. L. Stine is going to rot their little zombie-lovers’ brains.

The characters, the plot twist, The Whispering Skull Audiobook Mp3 is just so incredible, hilarious and everything I need in life. I love George, Lucy, and Lockwood more than I love myself and that probably sounds really sad lmao. I’m incapable of writing a review bc honestly I don’t know how-to for this. All you need to know that this series is perfection.

The Narrator: The narrator for this one is different from the first book, but she does an excellent job. Katie Lyons smoothly takes the reigns in Stroud’s second ghost-detecting escapade. Psychic agents Lockwood, George, and Lucy are challenged by rival agents, a deadly mystical mirror, and a spirit trapped in a jar. Their investigation has no shortage of creepy moments, and Lyons meets each one head-on, eliciting shivers from listeners.

Lyons is skilled at maintaining a breakneck pace while also capturing the group dynamic – Lucy’s no-nonsense narrative, George’s snarky comments, and Lockwood’s cool and confident exterior.

The Screaming Staircase Audiobook Mp3 will keep you reading late into the night, but you’ll want to leave the lights on. Stroud is a genius at inventing an utterly believable world which is very much like ours, but so creepily different.

The characters were quite well done, I thought, and so was the plot. Where this book really shines, though, is the setting – Stroud’s land of malevolent spirits is rich and well-planned and masterfully painted. The descriptions of the ghosts and the dangers the characters faced were vivid. I was sucked into this baleful world expertly enough that I could almost feel the chill the specters were emitting.

Very recommended this audiobook very highly – it is ideal for fans of Jonathan Stroud’s existing work and also those who have enjoyed Joseph Delaney’s Spooks series.

If you are undecided about this 4-book series and are previewing what others have to say about this epic fantasy story, you will not be disappointed if you take the plunge. Each story continues to build on its predecessor with new characters introduced along the way. I especially enjoyed not having to wait at least a year for the next installment but was able to proceed with the next book when I was ready. The story is suitable for young adults and above and is not predictable as many YA fantasies are. A great read, highly recommended.

I thoroughly enjoyed the Shannara series, especially the 4th and final book. Terry Brooks created a world that was both interesting and very imaginative and characters that had depth and were complex, each dealing with their own inner demons. John Lee is an excellent reader and adds to the overall listener’s experience with his stellar performance. The final battle and climax was satisfying and an excellent end to this series.

Plot Summary

Eighty years into the future, the United States is a no-man’s-land: its landscape blighted by chemical warfare, pollution, and plague; its government collapsed, its citizens adrift, desperate, and fighting to stay alive. Survivors in fortified compounds hold the line against wandering predators, rogue militias, and hideous mutations spawned by the toxic atmosphere. And against them, all stands an enemy neither mortal nor merciful: demons and their minions, bent on slaughtering and subjugating the last of humankind.

But from around the country, allies of good have been summoned to challenge the rampaging evil. Logan Tom, wielding the magic staff of a Knight of the Word, has a promise to keep – protecting the world’s only hope of salvation – and a score to settle, with the demon that massacred his family. Audiobook review

The Gypsy Morph Audiobook Mp3 wraps up the Genesis of Shannara trilogy quite nicely. As Hawk realizes his powers and accepts what he is and what he need to do, all the moving pieces of the book seem to be drawing together. When the various groups merge there are some missing, some unexpected additions, and a long road ahead of them.

This audiobook was all about journies – physical and emotional. So many strings come together in one giant knot and Terry Brooks manages to unravel and lay them out before you in nice even rows. Logan Tom gets to face off with “his” demon, and I see the bloodlines that appear in so many of books finding their beginnings.

I highly recommend the entire set of the Genesis of Shannara series. It is set in our world with a twist. The global destruction and pollution of humanities resources have changed many in often horrible ways and the story follows those chosen to save who they can.
