The Colorado Kid Audiobook Overview: A Hard Case Crime Novel
The Colorado Kid Audiobook is a mystery novel by American writer Stephen King, published by the Hard Case Crime imprint in 2005.
The book was issued in one paperback-only edition by the specialty crime and mystery publishing house. King’s next novel for Hard Case Crime was Joyland, which was published in June 2013.
Plot Summary
On an island off the coast of Maine, a man is found dead. There’s no identification on the body. Only the dogged work of a pair of local newspapermen and a graduate student in forensics turns up any clues.
But that’s just the beginning of the mystery. Because the more they learn about the man and the baffling circumstances of his death, the less they understand. Was it an impossible crime? Or something stranger still…?
No one but Stephen King could tell this story about the darkness at the heart of the unknown and our compulsion to investigate the unexplained. With echoes of Dashiell Hammett’s The Maltese Falcon and the work of Graham Greene, one of the world’s great storytellers presents a surprising tale that explores the nature of mystery itself.
Review
If rumors are true, this could well be King’s last novel. And he pulled the ultimate surprise on his readers. As expressed in The Colorado Kid Audiobook: A Hard Case Crime Novel, a finished story with all the loose ends tied up neatly makes people happy. An unsolved mystery, though, leaves people unsettled and craving.
This audiobook is an example of the premise of its storyline. Read it, grouse about it, but then notice how your mind keeps worrying it and turning it over and over and over…
If you want one of those nice neat packages, this book isn’t for you. But, if you want a REAL mystery (ala King style) grab this one.
