You might think that its title rings the bell. Well, that is the reference to “The Girl with the Dragon tattoo” of Stieg Larsson.
The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo Audiobook mentioned many topics such as gun violence in the USA, sexual assault and consent, domestic violence, as well as more personal problems as her troubled relationship with her parents’ multiple sclerosis.
The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo Audiobook Review
The Girl with the Lower Back Tattoo Audiobook received generally favorable reviews from critics.
Isabella Biedenharn of Entertainment Weekly gave the book a B+, writing that the book was “full of advice—and not just the tongue-in-cheek kind you might expect from a stand-up comedian” and that it was “much more like a straightforward memoir than even [Schumer] appears to believe”, summing up her review stating that the book was “far less a portable joke factory than it is a real, deep dive into Schumer’s life.
Lincee Ray of the Associated Press said that “readers will laugh and cry, and may put the book down from moments of honesty that result in uncomfortable realistic details from her life.”
“Amy Schumer’s book will make you love her even more. For a comedian of unbridled (and generally hilarious) causticity, Schumer has written a probing, confessional, unguarded, and, yes, majorly humanizing non-memoir, a book that trades less on sarcasm, and more on emotional resonance.” — Vogue
About Amy Schumer
Amy Beth Schumer (born June 1, 1981) is an American stand-up comedian, writer, actress, and producer. She is the creator, co-producer, co-writer and star of the sketch comedy series Inside Amy Schumer, which debuted on Comedy Central in 2013 and has received a Peabody Award. Schumer has been nominated for five Primetime Emmy Awards for her work on the series, winning for Outstanding Variety Sketch Series in 2015. That year, she also wrote and starred in the comedy film Trainwreck, receiving nominations for the Writers Guild of America Award for Best Original Screenplay and the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress – Motion Picture Comedy or Musical.
It’s easy to see why Schumer’s book is billed as “confessional” – women’s writing often is. It is still the case that when a woman writes or talks candidly, her words are viewed as confessional because of how long women’s voices have been suppressed. But it’s also often the writing women are pushed into – it’s the business model of entire websites. But part of Schumer’s huge success as a comedian – the ratings smash Inside Amy Schumer; hosting MTV awards shows – is how well she skewers double standards. “Confessional” is a very gendered word. Can’t we just call her honest?
