Plot Summary
When the most powerful weapon in the land of Prydain falls into the hands of Arawn, Lord of the Land of Death, Taran and Prince Gwydion rally an army to stand up to the dark forces.
The companions’ last and greatest quest is also their most perilous. The biting cold of winter is upon them, adding to the danger they already face. Their journey, fraught with battle and bloodshed, ends at the very portal of Arawn’s stronghold. There, Taran is faced with the most crucial decision of his life.
Why should you listen to The High King?
This is a great story and a really wonderful Narrator. I love that the audiobook is filled with friendships, quests, integrity, wisdom, character focus, working together and community. The High King Audiobook Mp3 is a veritable Greatest Hits of Prydain, reuniting literally everyone Taran has encountered on his adventures. It’s overwhelming how many story threads Alexander weaves together.
Previously, other audiobooks have been told solely from Taran’s point of view, but now for the first time we see events through the eyes of other characters – everyone from Elionwy to Dallben to Kaw gets a chance to be in the spotlight.
This audiobook is a marvelous capstone to the series. It eschews the episodic structure and instead follows multiple quests that all culminate in a battle that, if not as exciting as, say, the defeat of Voldemort, still feels well-earned and deeply satisfying. The author moves you from highs to lows in emotion, and good and bad characters are developed like the quote to be tempered over time.
The High King Audiobook Free is an exhilarating listening, as by this stage most listeners will be deeply invested in these characters and the land of Prydain, and the author swings us continually back and forth from despair to hope and back again. The fortunes of the good guys are always up for grabs, and Alexander makes sure we know that the stakes are high and the cost of defeat is unthinkable.
I highly recommend this heroes journey for all ages!
