”Secrets followed Lockwood about like the flapping of his coat, and it was nice to be close enough to feel them brush against me too.”

The Hollow Boy Audiobook is the third novel in Jonathan Stroud’s superior urban fantasy series for young adults – Lockwood & Co..

Danger abounds, tensions escalate, and new loyalties form in this third delightfully terrifying adventure in the critically acclaimed Lockwood & Co. series.

Plot Summary

As a massive outbreak of supernatural visitors baffles Scotland Yard and causes protests throughout London, Lockwood & Co. continue to demonstrate their effectiveness in exterminating spirits. Anthony Lockwood is dashing, George insightful, and Lucy dynamic, while the skull in the jar utters sardonic advice from the sidelines. There is a new spirit of openness in the team now that Lockwood has shared some of his childhood secrets, and Lucy is feeling more and more as if her true home is at Portland Row. It comes as a great shock, then, when Lockwood and George introduce her to an annoyingly perky and hyperefficient new assistant, Holly Munro.

Meanwhile, there are reports of many new hauntings, including a house where bloody footprints are appearing and a department store full of strange sounds and shadowy figures. But ghosts seem to be the least of Lockwood & Co.’s concerns when assassins attack during a carnival in the center of the city. Can the team get past their personal issues to save the day on all fronts, or will bad feelings attract yet more trouble?

Audiobook Reviews

I think The Hollow Boy Audiobook Mp3 is the best audiobook in this series. Overall the story had good momentum, lots of unpredictable moments, it has really scary parts where it’s difficult to figure out what’s happening (always good in a mystery), the supernatural elements are amped up (in a good way) and really add to the story and suspense.

It was nice to see different factions working together but in some ways not enough character development on key people outside the group to be invested in them or their contributions.

The humor found within is perfect, it is used sparingly and strikes with rapier-like accuracy. The preceding book introduced a new ‘character’, the titular Whispering Skull, and as much as I like Lockwood, George and Lucy, the skull is now far and away from my favorite, being by turns acerbic, witty, mischievous, wicked and generally wonderful. I think many other readers will find the skull a real highlight of the novel.

Highly recommended! Ms. Bevan’s narration has been the best of the three audiobooks and was thoroughly enjoyable. She is able to convey subtle nuances with her lovely voice, and it is very much appreciated. I listen to while cooking, and never got lost or had to re-wind. She elevated the story.

  1. Cannot download each chapter as a single file. Each chapter has broken into several audio files.
Can you please fix this. Previous audio players worked perfectly.
    Thank you!

    • Okay. I changed my mind. I hate the way she says some words when shes narrating for Lucy, but at least she tries to vary the accents and cooces for the other characters. So now she’s my favourite
