The Regulators Audiobook Overview
There’s a place in Wentworth, Ohio, where summer is in full swing. It’s called Poplar Street. Up until now it’s been a nice place to live. The idling red van around the corner is about to change all that. Let the battle against evil begin. Here come…The Regulators.
Background
The Regulators Audiobook is a novel by American author Stephen King, writing under the pseudonym Richard Bachman. It was published in 1996 at the same time as its “mirror” novel, Desperation Audiobook.
The two novels represent parallel universes relative to one another, and most of the characters present in one novel’s world also exist in the other novel’s reality, albeit in different circumstances.
Plot Summary
The battle against evil has begun in this “devilishly entertaining” (Publishers Weekly) story of a suburban neighborhood in the grip of surreal terror – a number-one national bestseller from Stephen King writing as Richard Bachman.
Peaceful suburbia on Poplar Street in Wentworth, Ohio, takes a turn for the ugly when four vans containing armed “regulators” terrorize the street’s residents, cold-bloodedly killing anyone foolish enough to step outside their homes. Houses mysteriously transform into log cabins, and the street now ends in what looks like a child’s hand-drawn Western landscape. Masterminding this sudden onslaught is the evil creature Tak, who has taken over the body of an autistic eight-year-old boy, Seth Garin.
“A rip-roaringly violent thriller whose main action takes place in little more than an hour and a half” (Booklist), The Regulators Audiobook features an introduction by Stephen King on “The Importance of Being Bachman”.
Review
One of the most frightening and horrible audiobooks I’ve ever read. Oh God, this story unfolds with a kind of unnatural speed and a huge amount of horror. As I was reading, I almost wished I could stop because it was just too scary. I’m really scared of being in a situation where it doesn’t seem like there’s a way out.
What Stephen King/ Richard Bachman does in The Regulators Audiobook Mp3 is to explore the unnatural beings in the Dark Tower universe and the imagination of a child.
The true genius of this story lies in how well it’s crafted. There are distinct levels, it builds, levels off, rises again, levels off, and then finally plummets down to the conclusion. The description at the beginning of summer and the neighborhood is, seriously, a thing of beauty.
