“The joy for me is knowing that somebody can have this strange audio experience. They’re getting something as good as you get from radio.” – Neil Gaimen
Two Plays for Voices Audiobook is an audiobook of two of Neil Gaiman’s short stories, “Snow, Glass, Apples” and “Murder Mysteries”. There are some ugly bits in each story, however, I did not discover them gratuitous.
Plot Summary
“Snow, Glass, Apples Audiobook” is a retelling of Snow White, from the stepmother’s point of view. It’s stylish and creepy – this model absolutely isn’t a children’s story, any more than the original was. The fundamental concept is one I’ve considered before, though. Tanith Lee did it first in “Red As Blood,” Red as Blood, or Tales from the Sisters Grimmer though that one has a very special ending. I’d likely supply this 3 stars if I were rating it separately.
“Murder Mysteries Audiobook” is a story inside a story. In the frame story, the narrator, a British man, remembers a time when he was once caught in Los Angeles while trying to get lower back home. He briefly hooks up with a historical girlfriend, and after leaving her apartment he meets a historic man who tells him a story in alternate for some cigarettes.
The ancient man claims that he was once the angel Raguel, charged with carrying out the Lord’s vengeance. He explains how he investigated the first crime in the records of the universe, the murder of an angel in the Silver City, the precursor of Heaven. There was once no obvious motive, so there was no apparent suspect – but Raguel was once willing to interview all and sundry in the City if he had to.
Neil Gaiman – Two Plays for Voices Audiobook Reviews
The highlight is really “Murder Mysteries” which I think is the high-quality of Gaiman’s brief testimonies that he is written outdoor of comics.
The full forged performance is virtually captivating, and the eerie music is great.
“Perhaps it is authentic that all that occurs is in accordance with Your Will, and therefore it is good. But from time to time you leave blood on Your instruments.”
Snow Glass Apples Audiobook is a dark retelling of Snow White, from the stepmother’s point of view. In this version, Snow White is a very sinister little girl, and the “evil queen” who sends her into the woods to die is trying to save herself and her kingdom.
Murder Mystery Audiobook tells the story of the first murder, the murder of an angel during the dawn of creation, investigated by means of Raguel, the Angel of Vengeance. Lucifer performs an outstanding role.
Retelling fairy memories and myths have always been Neil Gaiman’s thing. Sometimes he’s pretty sensible about it. In this case, I notion the stories have been okay, but there was nothing clearly shocking or innovative about them, and I’ve to turn out to be a little jaded with Gaiman and his low-cost shortcuts for making a story “edgy” by way of including blowjobs and homoerotic kisses. For the stories and writing alone, I’d probably charge this set 3 stars – good however not terrific – but for the reason that they have been mainly made for an audio production, I have to bump it up any other famous person for the exceptional narration through Bebe Neuwirth and Brian Dennehy, as well as the rest of the cast.
If you are a Gaiman fan, Two Plays for Voices Audiobook Mp3 is a common Gaiman. It’s honestly now not his fantastic work, however, it is short.
