A Clash of Kings Audiobook free continues the saga started by George R.R. Martin in A Game of Thrones Audiobook. There are six projected volumes in this series (A Song of Ice and Fire Audiobooks), all of them are now available on unabridged audiobook.

A Clash of Kings is a classic set in baroque back to a period spanning 8,000 years of history. George Martin uses a combination of; deftly magic, realistic characters, and minimal fantasy into a rich plot of drama.

From menacing barbarians of the north, threatening the lives of the knights, the fearless Targaryen house, to the rich-in-gold Lannister family, the author creates major suspense. He is able to build up the story using far-fetched stories that are related, by employing the single goal of capturing the Iron Throne.

This audiobook takes us through tough battles and schemes in the fight to occupy the Iron Throne. To protect the newly granted prize, young King Joffrey eliminates all threats possible including the noblemen like Lord Stark. His main advisors are; Queen Cerisi and his witty uncle Tyrion Lannister. These advisers then gain the title of ‘hand of the king’. Everyone in this family seems to be interested in the throne and works fiercely to achieve the lucrative spot.

Most of the noblemen who do not seem to offer full support to this new regime are hunted and down and killed. Young Arya Stark flees and struggles to survive. The last party is led by the last heir of the former ruling party, which is known for breeding dragons.

Summary

A Clash of Kings Audiobook free download is a direct continuation of the first volume with the addition of several new characters.

After the death of King Robert Baratheon, his brother Lord Stannis develops a strong urge for the Iron Throne. However, he is not the only one interested in ruling the seven kingdoms. The race for the seven kingdoms begins with everyone claiming rights for the coveted throne. Lord Stannis is one of the least popular choices for this throne. Cerisi is the first to advice Stannis against taking the throne. Nevertheless, Melisandre convinces him that he has divine favor to win it. The only condition the priestess gives is the assassination of Renly (Stannis brother).

The young Arya Stark is only 10 years and obsessed with power to the extent that, he ends up disguising himself as a boy. She is a nobleman’s daughter who appears as a peasant’s boy. Memories of her late father’s dishonorable death, haunts her. She is driven by revenge and hatred to King Joffrey. Yoren is a powerful warrior tasked with her care. He is determined to take her through the tough journey to Winterfell. This journey proves more difficult than he had anticipated and his tactics of war are not enough.

Sansa Stark is the graceful elder daughter to the slain Lord. She lives a disgraceful life as King Joffrey’s fiancé. This is King Joffrey’s only 13th year yet he is a powerful and ruthless king. His mother is responsible for his hardness of heart. Sansa continues with her act as the adoring naïve and innocent lover. It is the same lover who killed her father and it is a tough time for her at the palace. Dontos comes to save her by helping her escape.

Tyrion finally qualifies for a place in the coveted leadership. He is named the hand of the king. He works together with Queen Cerisi, Joffreys mother, and main advisor who is witty and cunning. The regime becomes stronger especially when Tyrion Lannister matches a united army to join the cause.

Audiobook Review

Author and stories

George Martin portrays a tough tussle for power filled with hatred and malice. The battle takes 10 years in a prolonged winter.

In A Clash of Kings Audiobook free, the writer chooses to use a slow start. If you are enthused by twisted politics, you will be amazed. However, if you are looking for continuous action, you have to listen on longer. The huge political shifts and activities surrounding Kings Landing is the focus of the book. You will not take long before realizing the biggest themes in these stories.

The author has many stories to tell. Most are far-fetched but, they are all related. All wars, schemes, and alliances are focused on attaining ruler-ship of the seven kingdoms.

Tyrion, Sansa, and Arya should be the safest characters to choose as favorites. Any other character will disappoint you. Those that seem to play a major role in the story are easily done away with. For example, a character like, Daenerys will catch your attention and quickly become your favorite for a hero only to be eliminated and forgotten. Catelyn also builds up before disappearing.

The succession of the events happens faster than you would’ve expected. It is difficult to predict the characters with the longest roles that lead to the end-game and this is a well-executed tool by the author.

Following the audiobook closely reveals a slow buildup of some characters. The least occurring main character seems to be Jon Snow and Bran.

A Clash of Kings Audiobook has been adapted for television by HBO as the second season of the TV series Game of Thrones. A Clash of Kings is also the name of the first expansion to the Game of Thrones board game.

Generally, A Clash of Kings is a free-flowing audiobook. It has a nicely done transitional period of the story and reveals exciting political twists. It may be confusing at first, but following it to the end reveals an unexpected climax before the suspense. It leaves you yearning for the next release. At the end of this audiobook, you will be sure to seek the next release.’

The Narrator

Roy Dotrice is back, the famed British narrator who delighted listeners during the first book with literally dozens of unique voices and accents. He rises to even greater heights in A Clash of Kings Audiobook free download, depicting battles, dragons and sword fights with enthusiasm and energy.

He has a knack for building the suspense of a scene without letting his tone betray when a surprise is coming, which is perfect for George R.R. Martin, master of plot twists. He also has a wry sense of humor that’s able to keep up with Martin’s rapid-fire dialogue and clever introspection.

Roy handles each character with expert precision, even the ones outside his usual range, like children and girls. By returning to the second book and also narrating the third, fourth, and fifth, he has become the voice of Westeros and everyone who lives within it.

The full A Clash of Kings audiobook mp3 clocks in at 37 hours and 12 minutes, slightly more than its predecessor, so still a listening experience you’ll need to divide into parts. Just don’t listen on your way to work or you’ll find yourself sitting in your car and muttering one more chapter, one more chapter…
