All about The Last Wish Audiobook Free
The Last Wish Audiobook (Polish: Ostatnie życzenie) is the first (in its fictional chronology; published second in original Polish) of the two collections of short stories (the other being Sword of Destiny) preceding the main Witcher Audiobook Saga, written by Polish fantasy writer Andrzej Sapkowski.
The collection contains six short stories interspersed with a continuing frame story; Geralt of Rivia, after having been injured in battle, rests in a temple. During that time he has flashbacks to recent events in his life, each of which forms a story of its own.
Plot Summary
Geralt of Rivia is a witcher. A cunning sorcerer. A merciless assassin. And a cold-blooded killer. His sole purpose: to destroy the monsters that plague the world. But not everything monstrous-looking is evil and not everything fair is good… and in every fairy tale there is a grain of truth.
A collection of short stories introducing Geralt of Rivia, to be followed by the first novel in the actual series, The Blood of Elves. Note that, while The Last Wish was published after The Sword of Destiny, the stories contained in The Last Wish Audiobook Free Download take place first chronologically, and many of the individual stories were published before The Sword of Destiny.
Audiobook Review
By: Andrzej Sapkowski
Narrated by: Peter Kenny
Length: 10 hrs and 15 mins
I picked The Last Wish Audiobook Free up because I recently started playing the games. I honestly wish I had done that the other way around now, and gotten into the audiobooks first.
The stories are excellently written, with some nice takes on old fairy tales. I don’t know if it’s because these stories are originally from Eastern Europe, or just skill of the author, or what, but this was the first fantasy novel (or, rather, collection of fantasy short stories) I’ve read in a long time where I was pleasantly surprised to discover that I didn’t know quite where things were going until they got there.
Sapkowski doesn’t stick to the same tropes we westerners are used to, or if he does, he uses them in unexpected ways. His monsters have just as much personality as his protagonists, and often have many of the same motivations.
So, if you’re a fan of good fantasy, I would definitely suggest picking this up, even if you’ve not played the games and don’t plan to. I don’t think you’ll be disappointed with what you find in the world of The Witcher. I myself plan to do much more exploration of that world.
