What is The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance Audiobook?

Star Wars – The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance Audiobook is a science fiction audiobook from the Star Wars franchise written by Australian author Sean Williams. Fatal Alliance Audiobook is the first of at least two audiobooks being released this year in conjunction with The Old Republic, the new MMORPG from BioWare, developers of 2003’s tremendous role-playing video game, Knights of the Old Republic.

It’s also the first story set in this new “cold war” period BioWare has carved out in the Star Wars timeline, approximately 3,500 years before the films, and 300 or so years after the events of the previous Knights of the Old Republic games.

The plot

Tassaa Bareesh, a matriarch in the Hutt crime cartel, is holding an auction that’s drawing attention from across the galaxy. Representatives of both the Republic and the Sith Empire are present, along with a Jedi Padawan sent to investigate, a disenfranchised trooper drummed out of the Republic’s elite Blackstar Squad, and a mysterious Mandalorian with a private agenda. But the Republic’s envoy is not what he seems, the Empire’s delegate is a ruthless Sith apprentice, the Jedi Padawan is determined to do the right thing and terrified that he can’t, the trooper hopes to redeem her reputation, and the Mandalorian is somehow managing to keep one step ahead of everyone.

None of these guests – invited or uninvited – have any intention of participating in the auction. Instead, they plan to steal the prize, which is locked inside an impregnable vault: two burned chunks of an exploded star cruiser, one of which may hold the key to the wealth of an entire world.

But the truth about the treasure is dangerous and deadly. And in the end, Sith and Jedi, Republic and Empire, must do something they’ve never done before, something that all the agents of good and evil could never make them do: join together to stop a powerful threat that could destroy the galaxy.

Why should you listen to The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance?

The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance Audiobook is an enjoyable adventure that serves to flesh out the game’s time period while still retaining its own entity. It’s a well-executed tale that I really enjoyed listening.

The character development and the action are by far the best parts of this audiobook. Each main character, including two that remain mostly in the shadows, is fleshed out, with a full backstory that is revealed in a relevant manner and leaves room for growth after the novel. Some questions are raised in the process, but none that ruin the ability of a reader to enjoy what is revealed in here and now.

The Old Republic: Fatal Alliance Audiobook does what it is required to do for the sake of Star Wars: The Old Republic Audiobook without losing its inherent Star Wars qualities. There’s nothing perfect about it, but nobody read the blurb expecting this tie-in to be the next Mindor or Rule of Two- it’s just not focused enough for it. Settle for a good Star Wars Audiobook, and listen it.

Why should you listen to Star Wars: Dark Lords Of The Sith Audiobook?

This audiobook is filled with exciting adventures, and action-packed scenes, this is a must read in the star wars universe. The writing, while not great, is steady and constant. The story is pretty good, especially for one that mishmashes as much as this does. They do form an interesting parallel nonetheless, one enhanced by Gosset’s artwork.

As I said, this is probably the strongest of the Tales of the Jedi Audiobook series. Its storyline is the best defined by far, and Gosset’s art is very effective. The follow-up is a bit disappointing, as is the rest of the series in my opinion. Still, its a nice history lesson and a view into the ancient Jedi. Recommended.

About Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi Audiobook

Tales of the Jedi Audiobook is a series of comic books that published by Dark Horse Comics between 1993 and 1998. They are part of the fictional Star Wars expanded universe, and cover the Great Sith War and the Great Hyperspace War. The series represented the earliest chronological Star Wars Audiobook stories until the publication of the Dawn of the Jedi Audiobook series of comics and novels.

This is Tales of the Jedi Audiobook (Dramatized version). It is a pretty enjoyable little Audio Drama but maybe not the best audiobook to start with because there was so many characters to keep track but it was really fun. I enjoyed how much different voices we had and the effects & soundtrack are amazing. I really think it’s better to listen to this one than reading because of STAR WARS SOUNDTRACK!

Like other Star Wars audiobooks, Into the Void Audiobook is filled with suspenseful music and every type of sound effect they can possibly fit in. While there is some threat of system-wide destruction, the point is never pushed to being ridiculous. The characters feel believable and provoke interest. The attention to the characters never takes away from the plot.

There’s also a remarkable balance between world building, plot and character development, and action. When it comes down to it, Dawn of the Jedi: Into the Void Audiobook is just great storytelling.

Like a movie in your head, I can’t recommend Star Wars audiobooks enough. And January LaVoy does an excellent job bringing Lanoree and every other character to life.
